Asking for marketing permissions is a notorious friction point in any user journey. The objective for this project was to design a promotional opt-in prompt that felt less like a demand and more like an invitation. I wanted to move away from the aggressive, full-screen “interstitials” that frustrate users and instead create a lightweight micro-moment that respects the user’s current task while successfully driving business growth.
I chose a centered modal overlay with a dimmed background to ensure the user never feels like they’ve been pulled out of the app. By keeping the previous screen partially visible, I maintained a sense of place and reduced the cognitive load associated with navigating back and forth. This visual “anchor” assures the user that they are just a single tap away from returning to their flow, which significantly lowers the barrier to engagement.

To overcome the common reflex of “dismissal fatigue,” I utilized a friendly, vibrant illustration to set a welcoming tone. The typography follows a strict hierarchy where the headline offers immediate context and the subtext explains the value proposition in a single sentence. I intentionally avoided dark patterns by providing a clearly visible exit route in the top-right corner, ensuring the user feels in control of the experience at all times.
The interaction design focuses heavily on accessibility and ease of use. I expanded the tap target for the permission checkbox to include the entire description block, making it easier for mobile users to interact with precision. Additionally, the primary call-to-action is labeled “Continue” rather than a higher-friction word like “Subscribe.” This subtle linguistic choice frames the interaction as a transition back to the main experience rather than a heavy commitment.
I implemented a subtle, rhythmic pulse on the primary button to serve as a non-verbal “nudge,” guiding the user’s eye without being intrusive. This integration of motion design serves a dual purpose: it signals that the element is interactive and creates a “delightful” micro-moment that makes the brand feel more premium and responsive.
