Product Design

As product designer, my core objective for this educational product is to transform a potentially stressful assessment process into an engaging, supportive, and fluid journey. The design language utilizes soft gamification, intuitive wayfinding, and empathetic feedback loops to guide users from discovery all the way to actionable learning steps.

In the Test Gallery phase, the interface’s primary job is to reduce decision fatigue while clearly communicating the platform’s value. The top hero section features a “Recommended Test,” acting as a vital cognitive shortcut. This provides an immediate, personalized starting point so the user is never paralyzed by a paradox of choice.
Below this, the grid layout establishes a robust mental model of available content. The execution of the freemium model here is intentional and entirely frictionless. By designing desaturated, greyscale cards with recognizable lock icons for the Free tier, the interface provides an intuitive understanding of system boundaries without relying on aggressive paywalls. Furthermore, integrating bright, dynamic progress bars on active test cards leverages the Zeigarnik effect, subtly compelling users to return and finish incomplete tasks.

Once the user enters the active assessment state, the UX priority shifts entirely to minimizing friction and sustaining focus. A persistent progress bar at the top of the screen provides a crucial sense of spatial orientation. Knowing exactly how far they have come and what remains prevents user fatigue and clearly defines the finish line.
Crucially, the inclusion of an easily accessible pause state offers a psychological safety net. This grants the user ultimate control to step away without the anxiety of losing their hard-earned progress. To counterbalance the inherent dryness of mental calculus, a friendly monster (Beasty) is utilized as an empathetic companion throughout the flow. This introduces moments of delight and encouragement, effectively lowering the user’s affective filter during challenging questions.

The true UX value of a test is forged in its aftermath. On the Results Screen, rather than punishing the user with a raw score, the information architecture carefully categorizes the data into “Strengths” and “Next steps.” This structured, empathetic approach ensures that even a low score feels like an actionable roadmap rather than a definitive failure.
